We’re looking for 3D artists (generalists) to work on our next game. Read on for more details.

Please note that we do not have the resources to accept internships.

3D artist (generalist)

We’re currently hiring talented 3D artists (generalists) to join our team and to work on our new game — a 3D action-adventure for PC and consoles.

You must be proficient with 3D Studio Max (or equivalent), and you’ve contributed to a shipped title using Unity and/or Unreal. You enjoy working with other people, you’re keen to learn and improve your skillsets, and you have some technical knowledge about shaders, LODs, optimisation and lighting.

You’ll be modelling and texturing 3D game assets, including environments, buildings, props and vehicles, both high-and-low-poly. You’ll also perform supporting tasks such as optimisation, LOD and collision creation, lighting and bug fixing. In addition, you’ll work with remote art teams to build scenes and locations for our games.

You will hopefully play and appreciate the sort of narrative-driven games Red Thread is known for: games with soul for players who love stories.

To apply, you’ll need a strong portfolio demonstrating your artistic abilities and good taste. You’ll also need to have either a proven background in 3D modelling for shipped game(s) and/or a relevant art degree. References are highly appreciated.

This is a full-time position in our Oslo, Norway office. You must live in (or be able to relocate to) Oslo in order to qualify, though we welcome candidates from across the world.

Red Thread Games is dedicated to increasing diversity in the industry and on our team, and we highly encourage women and non-binary people, along with persons of colour, to apply for these positions.

To apply, follow the instructions below and remember to link to a portfolio that we can review.

What we're looking for

We’re looking for passionate, talented, creative and friendly people who share our love of storytelling, role-playing and adventure games. Professional experience helps a lot (and is required for some positions) but we’re willing to take a chance on you if you have a great portfolio, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude.

We're deeply committed to inclusiveness and diversity in the game industry, and we strongly encourage women, non-binary people, persons of colour and minorities to apply for positions at Red Thread.

Our team has development experience from games such as The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, The Secret World, Dreamfall Chapters, Draugen — and many others. We’re passionate about our work: we love games, we love telling stories, and we love working together in a collaborative and creative environment where everyone gets to contribute and learn from each other.

Red Thread makes story-driven games for PC and consoles, and we’re currently working on several exciting titles, including polar punk RPG Svalbard and first-person fjord noir mystery Draugen.

To apply, send us an email. Remember to include all of the following:

  • A link to your website, online portfolio, or to a downloadable portfolio (Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, etc.)

Common to all positions

We’re looking for candidates who are motivated, self-driven and who can demonstrate initiative and positive attitude — preferably with prior industry experience — along with a relevant university/college degree, an exceptional portfolio, and professional references.

You’ll be joining a small and intimate indie studio working out of a cosy office in downtown Oslo, Norway. We occupy the third floor of a beautiful and historic 146 year old building, with two restaurants and a café/bar on the first floor, an amazing coffee-and-sandwich place across the street, a Japanese Izakaya around the corner, and multiple grocery stores, lunch bars and cafés just minutes away.

We’re also within a ten-minute walk from much of what central Oslo has to offer, including all public transportation, malls, museums, parks, restaurants and nightlife — and the forest and fjord are only 15 minutes away using public transportation.

We don’t believe in crunch time at Red Thread Games, but we do believe that life, family and friends are all more important than work, and that people are more productive when they’re happy and healthy. We even serve a free lunch every day! Don’t let anyone ever tell you there’s no such thing.

We’re looking for people of all colours, genders, ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs and sexual orientations who fit in with our passionate, experienced and welcoming team of artists, designers and developers. We expect everyone to contribute, and in return you get to shape our games and worlds for years to come.
