Help us build narrative games with soul.
Open positions
We’re currently looking for a senior game systems designer for Hello Sunshine, with previous experience from role-playing and/or survival games. This is a contract position — either on-site in Oslo, Norway, or remote. Read more about the position here.
We’re also looking for a community and content coordinator to help manage and support our growing player community. This is a fully remote position. Read more about the role here.
If you’ve sent us an open application for another position, we’ll keep your information on file, but we may not be able to respond at this time.
We’re looking for…
Curious, creative and friendly folks who share our love for narrative-driven role-playing adventure games.
Professional experience helps, and is required for some positions, but we’re sometimes willing to take a chance if you have an exceptional portfolio and an eagerness to learn.
If you’ve played and enjoyed our previously published games, you should definitely let us know.
We're deeply committed to inclusiveness and diversity in the games industry, and we strongly encourage women, non-binary people, persons of colour, minorities, and other under-represented groups to apply for a position at Red Thread.
About our studio.
Our previously released games include Dreamfall Chapters, Draugen, and Dustborn. We’re currently working on two new titles: Hello Sunshine and Project M.
We’re passionate about what we do: we love games and we love working together in a collaborative and creative environment where everyone can contribute, grow, and learn.
To apply, send us an email. Remember to include all of the following:
A link to your website, online portfolio, or downloadable portfolio (Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, etc.)
A cover letter explaining why you want to join the Red Thread team. Make it personal and not too long. Do NOT use AI (like ChatGPT) to write your letter: we want to understand who you are, without machines getting in the way.
Your professional CV or course descriptions.
Applications without portfolios or relevant work samples will not be considered.
If you’re applying for an available position, we will get back to you as soon as we can. Open applications are read and filed, but don’t expect an answer anytime soon, since our bandwidth is low.
Common to all positions.
We’re looking for candidates who are curious, motivated, self-driven, and who demonstrate initiative and a positive attitude — preferably with prior game development experience — along with a relevant university/college degree, an exceptional portfolio, and professional references.
You’ll be joining a small indie studio working out of a cosy office in downtown Oslo, Norway. We’re located in a beautiful and historic 150 year old building, with two restaurants and a café/bar on the first floor, an amazing coffee-and-sandwich place across the street, a Japanese Izakaya around the corner, and multiple grocery stores, lunch bars, and cafés just minutes away.
We’re a five-to-ten minute walk from much of what central Oslo has to offer, including all public transportation, shopping streets, museums, parks, restaurants and nightlife — and the forest and fjord are only 15 minutes away by metro or bus.
At our studio we don’t do crunch time or weekend work. We believe family, friends, and a thriving personal life are more important than work, and that people are more creative and productive when they’re happy and healthy. We work five days a week, eight hours a day, with five weeks of annual holiday — plus additional personal days and flexible work hours.
And don’t let anyone tell you there’s no such thing as a free lunch: we serve one every day!
We’re looking for people of all colours, genders, ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs and sexual orientations who can fit in with our passionate, experienced, and inclusive team of artists, designers and developers.
We expect everyone to contribute, and in return you get to shape our games, worlds and stories for years to come!
How to apply.
Send an email to jobs@redthreadgames.com to apply for a position at Red Thread Games. Please include a cover letter, a CV, and a link to your online portfolio or gallery, or to a shared zip file. Please keep any email attachments to less than 10Mb in size.
Applications without a cover letter, CV or relevant work examples will not be considered, and we probably won’t get in touch to ask you to send us these things, so please double-check before submitting your application.
If you qualify for a follow-up call or interview, we’ll get in touch. We receive a lot of applications, so if you don’t hear from us, please be patient.
About internships.
Unfortunately, for logistical reasons, we generally do not accept internship applications from outside Norway.
If you’re a Norwegian student looking for internship opportunities in game design, 3D art or animation, marketing or project management, send us an email, but please note that we have very few spaces available, and we do not have internship opportunities during summer months (June through August) due to holidays.
